Limestone with Red/Brown Dry Dashing
This Limestone with Red/Brown Dry Dashing gives a plain render warm colour and texture. Bright white limestone does most of the work, and red and brown chippings scattered through it add warmth. Up close, the wall has depth and a gentle speckle. It suits homes and business premises that already have brown, red, yellow or gold in their brick, trim, roof or doors.
- Light, bright white limestone base
- Warm red and brown flecks that pick up the colours around it
- A textured pebble dash finish that needs very little looking after
What is Limestone with Red/Brown Dry Dashing?
It is a dry dash aggregate: loose stone chippings thrown onto a fresh render coat so they bed in and form the finished face of the wall. The mix is mostly pure white limestone, with about 10% red and brown chippings mixed through it. No two pebbles are alike, so the finish looks natural rather than printed on.
| Feature | Why it matters on your wall |
|---|---|
| White limestone base | Keeps the facade bright, even on a grey Irish afternoon |
| Red and brown chippings mixed through | Picks up warm tones in brick, sills, doors or roof tiles |
| Chippings generally 8 to 11 mm long | Gives an even, textured dash that beds in well |
| Pebble dash finish | Low maintenance, with no painting cycle like a smooth render |
Where to use it
- Full facades on new builds and renovations
- Feature panels or gable ends, alongside smooth render
- Shopfronts and business premises that want a warmer front
- Extensions next to warm-toned brick
- Boundary and garden walls that should match the house
Plasterers and builders who want a cooler, more graphic look can compare it with our dry and wet dashing advice before settling on a mix.
Pack sizes and coverage
As a guide, one 25 kg bag covers about 2 m² of wall. The larger pack figures below are worked out from that rate, so treat them as estimates.
| Pack size | Approximate coverage | Typically suits |
|---|---|---|
| 25 kg bag | About 2 m² | Repairs, small panels, porches |
| 500 kg | About 40 m² | Extensions, gable ends |
| 1000 kg | About 80 m² | Full house facades, trade jobs |
Measure your walls, take off the windows and doors, and run the figures through the Online Calculator. Rates vary with the render and how the dash is thrown, so check the final quantity with your plasterer. We also sell the White Limestone Sand and white cement for the base coat, so you can order everything together.
FAQs
How many bags of red/brown dry dash do I need for my house?
Allow about one 25 kg bag for every 2 m² of wall. Measure each elevation, subtract windows and doors, then divide the total by two to get your number of bags. For a whole house, the 500 kg or 1000 kg packs are usually the easier way to buy. Ask your plasterer to confirm the quantity before you order.
Will limestone dry dash hold up in Irish weather?
Once it is properly bedded into the render, a stone dash finish is low maintenance. How well it performs depends mostly on the render underneath and how well it was applied, so use an experienced plasterer.
What else do I need besides the chippings?
A dry dash job also needs a render base coat, usually white cement mixed with limestone sand. We sell both, so you can order the full set of materials in one go and have it delivered together. If you are not sure of the ratios for your wall, call or message us.
